Residential Homes Project Data

The background

Maintaining a hygienic home is crucial for health; however, bacterial contamination on household surfaces remains a persistent challenge. Everyday activities continuously spread microbes, with high-touch areas like kitchen counters, bathroom surfaces, and door handles becoming hotspots. While conventional cleaning methods can reduce microbes, they often rely on chemical disinfectants that require frequent use and may cause resistance. Additionally, these chemicals can leave harmful residues, raising concerns about long-term safety and effectiveness.

Therefore, this case study evaluates Biovitae Sanitising Light Solutions in a home by measuring bacterial counts in key areas over time. Unlike traditional methods, this technology provides continuous, chemical-free microbial control while also preserving a healthy microbial balance.

Over two years (2015–2017), researchers systematically measured bacteria levels before and after installing the sanitising lights in a real home. Ultimately, this study provides evidence-based insights into the viability of this technology as a long-term hygiene solution.

The environment and method

The selected home was a residential dwelling with a family of three and a small dog. Additionally, it was on the second floor of an apartment building. Moreover, the rooms featured porcelain and parquet flooring with washable painted walls. Inside, the home included two bedrooms, a playroom, two bathrooms, a kitchen, an entrance hall, and a dining room.

Every month of 2015, researchers collected surface samples using nylon swabs. The home used traditional lightbulbs with no connection to Our Sanitising Light Solutions. In 2016, researchers repeated the process, but this time, Our Sanitising Light Solutions replaced the traditional bulbs. This change allowed a direct comparison of bacterial levels under both lighting conditions.

Researchers used nylon swabs to collect data from key high-touch surfaces. These included bathroom door handles, floors in the entrance hall, kitchen, and bathrooms. They also tested the peninsula, kitchen worktop, both bathroom washbasins, taps, and the dog kennel in the dining room.

The results

The data clearly shows that, after the installation of Our Sanitising Light Solution, the bacterial count consistently remained lower compared to measurements under traditional lighting. This proves that our lights actively improve both air and surface quality, ultimately creating cleaner and healthier home environments. Furthermore, the data demonstrates that Our Sanitising Light Solutions achieved an average bacterial reduction of 67%, with peaks reaching 79%.

The conclusion

This case study confirms the effectiveness of Our Sanitising Light Solutions as a reliable tool for improving hygiene in homes. The data consistently shows a significant bacterial reduction, averaging 67% and peaking at 79%, proving this technology enhances cleanliness.

Moreover, by integrating seamlessly into homes and ensuring safety for both humans and animals, these lights provide continuous, chemical-free microbial control. Additionally, their proven success in public transportation, healthcare, and workplaces highlights their scalability and accessibility for home use.

As concerns grow over hygiene, antimicrobial resistance, and indoor air quality, this study highlights the need for innovative, non-disruptive sanitisation. Ultimately, the findings validate Our Sanitising Light Solutions, supporting their wider adoption to create cleaner, healthier living spaces.
